A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that involves promising or paying abnormally high returns ("profits") to investors out of the money paid in by subsequent investors, rather than from net revenues generated by any real business. It is named after Charles Ponzi, His aliases include Charles Ponei, Charles P. Bianchi, Carl and Carlo.
In December 2008, former chairman of the NASDAQ Stock Market, Bernard Madoff, was arrested and charged with a single count of securities fraud, but one which "may rank among the biggest frauds ever" totaling "$50 billion of fraudulent loses."
A Ponzi scheme has similarities with a pyramid scheme though the two types of fraud are different.

A Ponzi scheme usually offers abnormally high short-term returns in order to entice new investors. The perpetuation of the high returns that a Ponzi scheme advertises (and pays) requires an ever-increasing flow of money from investors in order to keep the scheme going.
What is The Ponzi scheme?
an idea which others would later, independently, invent as the Yellow Pages. Ponzi, unfortunately, was unable to sell this idea to businesses, and his company failed soon after.

A few weeks later Ponzi received a letter in the mail from a company in Spain asking about the catalog. Inside the envelope was an international postal reply coupon (IRC), something which he had never seen before. He asked about it and found a weakness in the system which would in principle allow him to make money.
Ponzi canvassed friends and associates to back his scheme, offering a 50% return on investment in 45 days. The great returns available from postal reply coupons, he explained to them, made such incredible profits easy. He started his own company, the Securities Exchange Company, to promote the scheme.

Some people invested, and were paid off as promised. The word spread, and investment came in at an ever-increasing rate. Ponzi hired agents and paid them generous commissions for every dollar they brought in. By February 1920, Ponzi's total take was US$5,000, a large sum for the time.

A man was lost while driving through the countryside. As he tried to reach for the map, he accidentally drove off the road into a ditch. Though he wasn't injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud. So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

"Warwick can get you out of that ditch," said the farmer, pointing to an old mule standing in a field. The man looked at the decrepit old mule and looked at the farmer who just stood there repeating, "Yep, old Warwick can do the job." The man figured he had nothing to lose.

The two men and the mule made their way back to the ditch. The farmer hitched the mule to the car. With a snap of the reins, he shouted, "Pull, Fred! Pull, Jack! Pull, Ted! Pull, Warwick!"

And the mule pulled that car right out of the ditch. The man was amazed. He thanked the farmer, patted the mule, and asked, "Why did you call out all of those names before you called Warwick?"

The farmer grinned and said, "Old Warwick is just about blind. As long as he believes he's part of a team, he doesn't mind pulling."

Recession is coming, How to act wisely during recession?
check out below common questions and my answers.
First and most important thing, make your own judgment, don't panic and pray!! Do what is wise.
Well what is Recession?
Recession:The state of the economy declines; a widespread decline in the GDP and Decline in the employment and trade lasting from six months to a year.

The recession looks very eminent. It is really time to take pro active steps to avoid a painful time in the next two years which is how long the recession is expected to last.

Checklist to fight in recession.

1. My suggestion on Loans; home loan, personal loan

DON'T TAKE ANY LOANS;
Don't BUY HOMES, PROPERTIES WITH LOANS,
Don't buy any/many things with CASH.
Act wisely KEEP AS MUCH CASH AS POSSIBLE.

2. What if I have personal loans?
During recession it is better to Pay off as much of personal loans, private loans, as debt collection will be hastened.

3. What to do with stock in Indian stock market?
Well its very hard to say; as if i say Sell any stocks you can even at lower prices; It will be against the warren buffet's policy; If you have enough cash; then put money in selective stocks, and don't look for short term returns during recession.

4. What to do with money in Trust Funds.
Take money off from Trust Funds.

5. What about market whispers?
Don't believe in huge sales forecast from customers, be extremely prudent, lowest inventories, reduce liabilities.

6. Can I invest in new capital?
Don't invest in new capital.

7. What to do with current homes?
Its million doller question most of us have invested in homes as a good investment option and with market boom. I had taken home in recent times, but If you are selling homes/ properties/ cars, do it now, when you can get good prices, they are going to fall.

8. Can I invest in new business?
Don't invest in new business proposals now. As recession is going to effect each and every segment of market, business goes if the money keeps rotating in market. Less money rotating less profits. One of my friend started business two years ago, now he is also affected with recession as money is not rotating in the market, there is less cash flow.

9. What about holiday plans?
Cancel holiday plans using credit cards.

10. Can I change job now?
Don't change jobs, as companies will retrench based on 'last in first out'.

Stay cool, wait, and if you took all of the above actions and more, you probably will be better off then many. This is not a rumor. Bear Stearns is the first of many banking and financial institutions that will start falling in the not too future. If Bear Stearns can fall, so can JP Morgan, Citibank, HSBC, and the whole world. US economy falls, the rest will crumble.

India and all those self economies will be the most protected, but not gullible.

The Washer man and the Foolish Donkey" ?

There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog. One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake. The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson. The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly. Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Moral of the story " One must not engage in duties other than his own"

Now take a new look at the same story…

The
washer man ( J ) was a well educated man from a premier management institute. He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night. He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it. Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet. The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a "meets requirement" . Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around. The donkey was rated as "star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation…

Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is an ambitious, even audacious project to organize and make available via the Internet virtually all information about life present on Earth. At its heart lies a series of Web sites—one for each of the approximately 1.8 million known species—that provide the entry points to this vast array of knowledge. The entry-point for each site is a species page suitable for the general public, but with several linked pages aimed at more specialized users. The sites sparkle with text and images that are enticing to everyone, as well as providing deep links to specific data.

The EOL dynamically synthesizes biodiversity knowledge about all known species, including their taxonomy, geographic distribution, collections, genetics, evolutionary history, morphology, behavior, ecological relationships, and importance for human well being, and distribute this information through the Internet. It serves as a primary resource for a wide audience that includes scientists, natural resource managers, conservationists, teachers, and students around the world. We believe that the EOL's encompassing scope and innovation will have a major global impact in facilitating biodiversity research, conservation, and education.

Life's Little Instruction Book
Have a firm handshake.
Look people in the eye.
Sing in the shower.
Own a great stereo system.
If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.
Keep secrets.
Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.
Always accept an outstretched hand.
Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
Avoid sarcastic remarks.
Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90percent of all your happiness or misery.
Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.
When playing games with children, let them win.
Give people a second chance, but not a third.
Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.
Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for your convenience, not the caller's.
Be a good loser. Be a good winner.
Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.
When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.
Keep it simple. Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.
Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.
Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.
Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets.
Be bold and courageous, when you look back on life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the one's you did.
Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.
Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.
Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.
Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.
Begin each day with some of your favorite music.
Once in a while, take the scenic route.
Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you're terrific.'
Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.
Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.
Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.
Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.
Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.
Become someone's hero.
Count your blessings.
Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.
Wave at the children on a school bus.
Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on our ability to deal with people.

LIFE!! Life is beautiful. it should be lived at all costs! we find happiness, laughter, sorrows, tears, heartaches, deep blows, jilts,BETRAYAL, despite all that i find that LIFE is still beautiful..... yes i repeat IT IS BEAUTIFUL..... I accept that at some turns of our life we find it difficult to cope with some kind of a situation, and sometimes get so much depressed with life that we say we wish to end this life, whats the use of being alive....... but after some time we regret having said so and we once again start enjoying this life the way it is!!!.......we then realise that pains and heartaches are for short durations be it tough and killing at the moment it hurts, despite that life is to be lived and enjoyed each minutes, say each second, every lapse of a moment is precious and should be LIVED..... ASK IT WITH THE PERSON WHO IS SICK AND IS TO BREATH OUT HIS LAST BREATH...... HE IS THE BETTER PLACED TO SAY HOW WONDERFUL IS THIS LIFE WE ARE LIVING.... AND THAT DYING PERSON HOW FAR IS LONGING TO BE BACK TO LIFE TO LIVE IT ONCE MORE......

So friends enjoy life with all that it gives, tears or laughter, accept all and you will find life more beautiful to live it...........................

We human beings have only one life to live; then why not celebrate and enjoy it? All of us are born with valuable gifts to make our lives happy; but we hardly make use of their full potential. If only we realise this, all of us can enjoy life.

Our domain is the present. Let us not allow ourselves to drift into the past, nor should we avoid the realities of the moment by thinking about the future. We know we cannot change the past, but we can ruin the present if we are not careful. So let us not squander the precious little lifetime given to us by feeling sorry for the past that NEVER returns, or worrying about the future that is UNCERTAIN. Let us try to optimise joy in our lives by focusing on the here and now.

Joyful moments can make a lifetime of happiness; their memories can create a heaven on earth.REMEMBER, we have only one chance to live the happy life of a unique human being and NOBODY gets a second chance!!

THEN WHY NOT CHOOSE TO LIVE A JOYFUL LIFE, AS LONG AS WE LIVE!

What is the answer to life the Universe, and Everything?
The answer to ‘life, the universe, and everything’ of course, is 42. So says Douglas Adams in The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

"simple answer" to The Ultimate Question is requested from the computer Deep Thought—specially built for this purpose. It takes Deep Thought 7½ million years to compute and check the answer which turns out to be 42.

According to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, a race of vast hyper-intelligent, pan-dimensional beings constructed the second greatest computer in all of time and space, Deep Thought, to calculate The Ultimate Answer to The Great Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Distracted by a demarcation dispute with two philosophers, a "simple answer" is requested. After seven and a half million years of computing cycles, Deep Thought's answer is: forty two.
“ "I think the problem is that the question was too broadly based..."
